You’ll be forever remembered as a champion for this unique Wilderness area.

    Making a Bequest

A bequest is simple and convenient. There are many options to make sure the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation is included in your will, estate, or living trust. Your bequest can include a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your total estate. We request that your bequest goes toward our general use, but you may also restrict its use to a program that matters most to you. A will, estate, or living trust is an important legal document, so we recommend you seek an attorney’s help when crafting your bequest.

    Put it in Writing

Here’s some simple bequest language to use to place in your will, estate, or living trust:

“I give to the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation, a nonprofit corporation currently located at PO Box 392, 9 South Broadway Ave, Suite #B, Red Lodge, MT 59068, and tax identification number EIN: 32-0320146. I, [NAME], of [CITY, STATE, ZIP] hereby give and bequeath the sum of $__ or __ percent of my estate to be used by the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation for its general purposes.”

    Beneficiary Designations

Did you know you can name the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation as a beneficiary of your retirement plans and IRAs, life insurance policy, bank accounts, CDs, or commercial annuity, and the entire designated amount passes to ABWF tax-free? And that your gift is fully deductible for estate tax purposes? Alternatively, retirement accounts like IRAs, Keoghs, and 401(k) plans are taxed as income to your heirs and may be subject to estate tax.

Consult your financial advisor or your employer’s human resource department to get the simple form to designate the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation (tax identification number EIN: 32-0320146) as a beneficiary of your retirement plans and IRAs, life insurance policy, bank accounts, CDs, or commercial annuity.

  • Charitable Gift Annuities (CGA) & Deferred Gift Annuities (DGA)

Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation maintains a qualified endowment fund at the Billings Community Foundation called the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Foundation Endowment. CGAs and DGAs at the Billings Community Foundation to benefit our endowment are eligible for the Montana endowment tax credit.

For 2024, the Montana tax credit is equal to 40% of your gift’s charitable value up to $15,000 for an individual and $30,000 for a couple. Thus, if a couple makes a $1,000 charitable gift, they will receive a $200 Federal tax benefit (assuming a tax rate of 20%) plus a $400 state tax credit (not deduction) off their state income liability, for a total tax savings of $600. Put $1,000 into a gift annuity and you are out of pocket $400.
